Daylight Robbery

"This is rootsy music that if it had come out of Austin, Raleigh or even Nashville, would be acclaimed as Americana of the finest order. To butcher a marketing slogan: context is nothing, music is everything. Obey your ears.

…an inspired mix of vintage pieces … and more contemporary songs … these guys present unique playing that is different than your average session players. They get interesting tones and fire off some great melodic lines, not the same old rock stuff you’re hearing on commercial country music today…"

Alan Cackett, Maverick. June 2007

"The vision is all encompassing and the production is a delight. With the bare minimum of overdubs, producer Spike Weinberg does himself and the Burglars proud. Whimsical flourishes and Beatle-esque flair make this cd a sonic treat. While some artists might poke you in the ribsto make sure you got it, the Burglars let it all float by, like a feather on the breeze. Chances are you’ll catch it."

Colin Palmer, Rock n Reel Roots. June 2007

Inside coverDaylight Robbery came about at the beginning of 2007 when we became aware of a studio some famous Cambridge rock stars secretly had out in the country.  As we were pals they opened its doors to us. We enjoyed that, recording the same way we play, making it up as we went along. Steve Stewart was a terrific engineer; dependable, solid and patient – with very good ears. The main thing that impressed our own Steve though, was the huge Tesco nearby, and the fact that it had an upstairs.

Spike Weinberg was, as anyone knows who’s worked with him, an inspiration. Also of course, a demanding taskmaster. His recent work with CajT, the Louisiana-based Zydeco hip-hop outfit and the Brighton singer and writer Sal Aukrisson brought a new dimension to the sessions.

Thanks also to Ted Koehorst for his tireless efforts in the sleeve design, for which he’s been deservedly praised, and thanks to him also for being cheap.

Mike Gott of the splendid Gott Discs was a huge help in guiding us through putting the package together and getting it manufactured. What a fine record company.
