Paula Welham

Paula WelhamPaula, from Cambridge, nursed a burning ambition to play the saxophone from the age of seven. To that end, she started learning the flute while at secondary school and was soon playing the piccolo in the Cambridge Youth Concert Band, which took her on tour to such countries as Austria and Holland, as well as performing at the Festival Hall in London.

Paula WelhamHer first treasured alto saxophone arrived on her 14th birthday, a present from her much loved Gran.

Also a natural singer, Paula played on the folk circuit and debuted in the club tent at the Cambridge Folk Festival with a school band.

Paula WelhamA natural progression saw her take up the tenor saxophone at the age of 16, and her beloved soprano just five years later. During the early nineties, Paula developed her skills on saxophone playing with the Royal Air Force military band as a civilian.

TPaula Welhamhe "Floozies" were formed in 2004 and this popular three-strong female group have gone from strength-to-strength in recent years, having released three CDs and played at numerous events.

Paula made her long-awaited return to lead vocals after a 20-year gap, with Telephone Bill and the Smooth Operators, in 2010.
